Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) midfielder Natxo Insa has stressed the importance of earning three points against Pahang at Stadium Darul Makmur tonight because it will be a step closer to securing the AFC Champions League spot in 2019.
A win for The Southern Tigers will see them extend their lead at the top of unifi Liga Super Malaysia 2018 to 11 points, ahead of Perak (27 points) in second place and Pahang (24 points) in third place.
There will be seven matches left after tonight’s match and the reigning league champions would be able to retain their title for a fourth time when they face Kedah in Alor Setar next month.
“We need to go into the game with our minds set on earning nothing but a win,” he said.
“We will be 11 points away from Perak if we win tonight, and that will bring us a step closer to qualifying for the group stages of the AFC Champions League next season.
The 32 year-old player believes that his teammates must not underestimate Pahang because they are a good side and they have had an impressive record in front of their home fans throughout the season.
“They always start stronger when they play at home, so we must be focused from the first minute.
“The game is 90 minutes and Pahang are a good team, so anything can happen.
Pahang will be without key figures Azam Azih and Safuwan Baharudin in Kuantan tonight.
