Kelantan head coach Fajer Ibrahim has expressed his delight after securing three valuable points over a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Kuala Lumpur in Kota Bharu on Saturday night.
The former Syria national team manager earned his first win as The Red Warriors head coach after goals from Shafiq Shaharudin, Nik Azli Nik Alias and Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat were enough to beat The City Boys.
However, Fajer Ibrahim does not want focus solely on the win against Kuala Lumpur because his side will face PKNP FC at Stadium Sultan Mohamad IV in Kota Bharu in unifi Liga Super Malaysia 2018 on Friday
"We have to continue with positive results," he said.
"We must play similarly to the Kuala Lumpur game throughout the season because our tempo and confidence on the ball were key to help us gain three valuable points."
Fajer Ibrahim is happy with the services of his foreign players (Cassio De Jesus, Do Dong-hyun and Mohamad Ghaddar) as well as the emergence of young blood within the squad.
"I am happy with the foreign players in the team and we can improve the quality and restore the balance of the squad by bringing in two more foreign players. We will need to assess the squad and see what positions we can work on and improve for the second half of the season."
The Syrian head coach fielded five players aged 21 or younger during the league match against Kuala Lumpur and is particularly impressed with a 19 year-old midfielder from the youth system.
"I like Nik Akif because he is very talented, but he has a long way to go as he is only 19," he concluded.
The 54 year-old coach believes all teams in Malaysia should adopt this mentality of fielding young players because it will help in the development of the national team in the long run.
