Kelantan's Do Dong-hyun is brimming with confidence ahead of the unifi Liga Super Malaysia clash against league leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Saturday as he aspires to be the best player in the country.
The South Korean winger started playing football in Malaysia last season when he signed with 100PLUS Liga Premier Malaysia side UiTM FC and instantly made an impact after scoring 16 goals in 29 appearances. However, the lure of playing in unifi Liga Super Malaysia tempted him away to the east coast.
Dong-hyun is currently The Red Warriors’ top scorer this season with 4 goals to his name, including a match-winning hat-trick against Perak, and he believes he could have added to that tally when his team faced Negeri Sembilan two weeks ago.
"We could have secured the win against Negeri Sembilan because I believed that I could have scored in the game if I had played a little bit longer, but that is the coach’s decision and I respect it,” he said.
The 25 year-old was asked of his intentions with Kelantan this year and he responded with a statement.
“I want to be the best player in Liga Super Malaysia.
Kelantan are currently in eleventh place in the standings and a win against The Southern Tigers will take them out of the relegation zone and instantly boost their morale for the second half of the season.
The ex-East Bengal man wants the Kelantan fans to never give up on the team throughout the game.
“I am not sure if I am playing but if I do, I will work hard and hope the fans cheer us on,” he concluded.
Kelantan will host JDT at Stadium Sultan Mohamad IV in Kota Bharu on Saturday night at 9:00 PM, with the match being broadcast live on unifi TV channel HyppSports 3.
